Part-Time Jobs in Qatar 2026: Where to Find, Pay & Visa Rules
Where to look for genuine part-time work in Qatar, what published pay figures actually show, and which approval applies if you are employed, family-sponsored, a student or a visitor.
Search Qatar Living Jobs, LinkedIn, Indeed, Bayt, Mzad and employer career pages; students should also check Sahem and their university. Most part-time ads give no pay or no unit, so get the rate in writing. A Qatar ID alone is not permission to work for anyone: employed residents need a Ministry of Labour permit for a second employer, family residents need a work permit, and we found no route for visitors.
Part-time jobs in Qatar do exist, but finding a vacancy is only half the job. The other half is checking that your residency status allows the arrangement, and that the right approval is in place before your first shift.
This guide covers where genuine part time jobs in Qatar are advertised, what published pay figures actually show, and which route applies if you are already employed, family-sponsored, a student, a visitor or still overseas. We checked the sources on 7 October 2026.
Important: QatarVia is an independent information website. We do not recruit or process applications, and this guide is not legal advice. Rules can change, so confirm your route with the Ministry of Labour before starting work.

What counts as part-time work in Qatar?
The labels in job ads overlap, but they lead to different legal routes. Here is how they differ in practice.
Part-time employment: you work fewer hours for an employer that holds the authorization for you to work there.
Work for a second employer outside your normal hours: Article 23 of Law No. 21 of 2015 on expatriates' entry and residence, as replaced by Law No. 19 of 2020, lets the Ministry authorize an expatriate to work for another employer for a defined period outside normal working hours. Both the current employer and the worker must freely consent (our summary of the ILO unofficial English translation).
Secondment: a temporary assignment to another employer while you stay with your current one. The same article allows up to six months, renewable once.
Internships and student training contracts: Sahem uses training contracts, not standard employment contracts. A stipend is not the same as a salary, so read the terms.
Freelancing or running a business: selling services in your own name involves commercial licensing. That is a separate route from employment and outside the scope of this guide.
Remote work: working online does not by itself settle whether you are authorized. We found no official rule that exempts remote work done from Qatar, so check before relying on it.
What changed in 2026
Law No. 9 of 2026 amending the Labour Law was issued on 11 June 2026 and published in the Official Gazette (issue 11) on 25 June 2026. Its Article 2 replaces Article 3 of the Labour Law, which lists the categories the law does not cover.
Item 8 of the new list is workers under a part-time or freelance arrangement (“العمال بنظام العمل الجزئي أو العمل الحر”). The same article lets the Cabinet, on the Minister's proposal, apply all or some Labour Law provisions to these workers, or issue a special work system for them. This is our summary of the Arabic text, not an official translation.
Two cautions follow. First, being named in the law is not permission to work part-time for anyone: the immigration and work-permit rules still apply. Second, exclusion from the Labour Law does not mean no rules apply, since contracts, work-permit rules and other laws remain. Qatar News Agency reported on 25 June 2026 that part-time and freelance work would be organized through later decisions. We found no such Cabinet decision as of 7 October 2026.
Can you work part-time? Eligibility by situation
The right answer depends on your current status, not on what a job ad says. A Qatar ID shows you hold residence; it does not let you work for any employer you choose. Use this table as a starting point, then confirm with the authority named.
Situation
Route or authority to check
Verify before starting
Important limitation
Resident already employed by a company
Ministry of Labour permit for secondment or for work outside normal hours, requested by the second employer
Your current employer has approved, and the Ministry has issued the permit naming the second employer
The law caps secondment at six months, renewable once; the 2022 launch notice says permits cannot run past your residence permit's expiry. Your employer's verbal consent alone is not the permit.
Family residence (sponsored by a spouse or parent)
Ministry of Labour work permit for family-sponsored residents
The permit is approved and your contract is in place before your first day
Current fees and document lists could not be confirmed on the Ministry's website during our research
Student enrolled in Qatar
Sahem (Jusour) or your university's on-campus employment program
Enrollment, valid QID, signed training contract or campus job offer
Sahem allows one employer at a time and caps hours; campus programs set their own caps
Tourist or family visit status
None found
Not applicable
We found no official route for paid work on visit status. Work requires an employer-led work permit and residence process.
Applicant still overseas
Employer-sponsored work visa
A written offer from an employer that will handle your visa
You can apply from abroad, but you cannot start work until the visa and residence steps are done
Family residence and family visit are different statuses. A family visit visa is for short stays, as our guide to family visit visa rules explains. Family residence is a residence permit sponsored by a relative living in Qatar.
Where to find part-time jobs in Qatar
Use several platforms, and treat every listing as a lead to verify, not proof that the arrangement is approved. This is what we found on each on 7 October 2026.
Qatar Living Jobs: has an employment-type filter with Full-Time, Part-Time, Contract and Freelance options, and separate Corporate and Domestic sections. On our check, the Part-Time filter returned 2 of 124 corporate listings. Each ad shows a visa-status field and whether salary is negotiable.
LinkedIn Jobs: each listing shows an employment type, but the advertiser sets it and we found mislabeled ads. Some salary figures displayed on listings contradicted the ad text.
Indeed Qatar, Bayt and Mzad Qatar: all three blocked our research tools, so we could not confirm their current filters. On Mzad, separate employer vacancies from jobseekers advertising themselves.
Employer career pages: hotels, event agencies and training centers often recruit directly. One events staffing firm's application form, for example, asks applicants for their QID, visa type and food handling certificate up front.
University employment offices: Qatar University, Georgetown, Northwestern, VCUarts, Weill Cornell Medicine and HBKU in Qatar all run student employment programs.
Sahem: enrolled students apply through the Sahem portal linked from Jusour’s program page.
Referrals and WhatsApp groups: these can surface real leads, but the same employer and permit checks still apply.
Our comparison of the best job sites in Qatar explains how each platform's application route works and how to check an employer.
Types of part-time roles worth searching
These groups appeared in current listings during our research. That does not mean every sector is hiring, or that every role is open to every residency status.
Hospitality and events: event staffing firms advertise waiter, steward, cashier, hostess and promoter roles. Work is usually shift-based around events. Ask who holds your permit, what one shift pays and whether a food handling certificate is required.
Tutoring, coaching and training: current ads include sports coaches, music teachers, supply teachers “for residents of Qatar only” and corporate trainers paid per program. Check whether you are being hired as an employee or invited to invoice as a freelancer, since those are different routes.
Administration: some ads seek part-time secretaries and control-room staff. One listed its visa status as “Freelancer Visa”. We found no official visa by that name, so ask the employer which Ministry permit will cover you.
Healthcare: part-time clinical roles we saw required a Qatar professional license, in addition to the work permit.
Digital and remote tasks: AI data and recording projects appear under part-time filters. They are usually paid per approved item in US dollars and are often labeled freelance.
Domestic work: part-time cleaning and housekeeping ads appear on classifieds sites. Domestic workers fall under a separate law (Law No. 15 of 2017), so an ad offering hourly home cleaning does not show the arrangement is authorized.

Part-time job salary in Qatar: what the evidence shows
Published part-time pay is scarce, and most of it lacks a clear unit. We did not find enough clean ads to state a typical range, so the table shows sourced examples only, not market averages. All were accessed on 7 October 2026.
Contradictory: headline says per hour, body says per accepted video
One one-hour session
Not clean evidence; shown as a warning example
What this tells you is limited. University rates apply only to enrolled students at those institutions. Classified ads often omit the unit, and many ads simply say “negotiable” or “to be discussed”. Several platforms also blocked our checks, so this is a small sample, not a survey.
General salary data does not fill the gap either. Our guide to salary expectations in Qatar covers full-time monthly pay, which you should not divide down into part-time rates.
Minimum wage.Law No. 17 of 2020 and Ministerial Decision No. 25 of 2020 set QAR 1,000 a month basic pay, plus QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food when the employer does not provide them. The decision calculates this on regular working hours. Neither text addresses part-time pro-rating, and how the 2026 amendment interacts with it has not been clarified. Sahem's FAQ says its pay complies with Ministry of Labour minimum-wage rules.
Photo by Towfiqu barbhuiya on Unsplash. Work out what you keep after transport and travel time, not just the headline rate.
How to compare two offers
Look beyond the headline figure. Ask about:
Gross pay vs what you keep: taxis and work expenses come out of your pocket unless the employer covers them.
Guaranteed pay vs commission: commission-only promoter roles can pay nothing in a slow week.
Paid hours vs travel time: a short shift across Doha may take as long to reach as to work, so check the route on the Doha Metro map before you accept.
Payment timing and cancellations: ask when you are paid and whether a canceled shift is paid.
Salary vs stipend: internship and training stipends follow the contract's terms, not employee salary rules.
Hypothetical example (arithmetic only, not a real vacancy or market rate). Offer A pays QAR 50 an hour for a 4-hour shift, and you spend QAR 30 on taxis and 1 hour traveling. You keep QAR 170 for 5 hours, which is QAR 34 per hour of your time. Offer B pays QAR 40 an hour for 6 hours, with transport provided and 1 hour of travel. You keep QAR 240 for 7 hours, about QAR 34.30 per hour. The lower headline rate ends up roughly equal.
Qatar part-time work permits and second jobs
If you already work for a company in Qatar, a second job needs Ministry of Labour authorization, not just a handshake. The legal basis is Article 23 of Law No. 21 of 2015, as replaced in 2020, summarized above.
The Ministry launched an e-service for this in 2022. QNA’s announcement of 31 August 2022 and an archived Hukoomi service page (last updated 6 September 2022, titled “Request of Permits for Full Time Secondment or Outside Working Hours”) described it as follows:
Who applies: the new, temporary employer.
Who takes part: the worker, the current employer (which must approve) and the new employer.
Who approves: the Ministry of Labour, which issues the permit.
Conditions listed in 2022: the establishment is covered by the Labour Law, holds valid registration and has no violations; the worker has no active secondment permit and no pending request of the same type.
Duration: up to six months, renewable for a similar period, and not beyond the residence permit's expiry.
Fees: the 2022 page said a fee would apply once a ministerial decree was issued. We could not confirm the current fee.
This is the 2022 description. The Ministry and Hukoomi websites were unreachable or under maintenance during our research, so confirm current conditions with the Ministry before relying on them. The issued permit is your record of approval; keep a copy.
A second job is not an employer change. Since 2020, private-sector workers can move to a new employer without a no-objection certificate, by giving notice under the Labour Law. That ends your main job; our guide to changing employers in Qatar covers it. A secondment or outside-hours permit keeps your main job and adds a temporary second one.
Once any job is agreed, check your employment contract in Qatar. The standard contract portal is built for Labour Law contracts, so a part-time or training arrangement may not appear there in the same way.
Student jobs in Qatar and the Sahem program
Enrolled students have two official routes: Sahem for off-campus work and their own university's on-campus program. The rules below belong to each program. They are not a general legal limit for all part-time workers.
Photo by rishi on Unsplash. A library in Doha. Student work limits come from Sahem and each university, not a single national rule.
Who runs it: Jusour, a government-owned company. The program page says its training contracts are approved by the Ministry of Labour.
Eligibility: residents and Qatari nationals enrolled at a university or higher education institution in Qatar. Exchange, foundation-year and gap-year students, and Qatar residents studying abroad, are not eligible.
Age and ID: over 17, with a valid Qatar ID.
Hours: up to 20 hours a week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours a week during term breaks and summer and winter holidays.
Contract: a training contract of at least one month, ending no later than graduation. The FAQ explains that this format was chosen because no legislation regulates part-time work for active students.
Employers: one at a time.
Pay: a monthly payment that the FAQ says complies with Ministry of Labour minimum-wage rules.
Documents: proof of enrollment, QID, photo and CV; some applicants also need a certified birth certificate.
Cost: free for students and companies.
Grades: if your university links a GPA drop to the job, you must stop.
On-campus jobs
Universities run their own schemes with their own caps. Qatar University’s student employment policy requires 24 credit hours passed and a 2.5 GPA, and caps work at 20 hours a week. Northwestern Qatar's 2026 to 2027 handbook limits jobs to on-campus roles. These are campus rules, not permission for off-campus work.
Family residents, visitors and overseas applicants
These three groups are often mixed up online, but their options differ completely.
Family residence. If a spouse or parent sponsors your residence permit, you can work, but only with a Ministry of Labour work permit. In June 2025, The Peninsula quoted a Ministry official describing two routes: the resident applies through the Ministry's “Join the Labour Market” service, or the employer applies for a work permit. We could not open the Ministry's current user guide, so confirm the documents and any fee with the Ministry or your employer. Do not start until the permit is approved.
Visitors. We found no official route that allows paid work on a tourist or family visit visa. An offer to “start now and sort the visa later” is a warning sign.
Overseas applicants. You can search and interview from abroad, but employment runs through an employer-sponsored visa; see the Qatar work visa process. Many part-time ads say they want candidates already in Qatar with a valid QID.
How to apply for part-time jobs effectively
Check your status first. Find your row in the eligibility table and the route it points to. If your residence is still being processed, run a Qatar ID status check before you apply.
Choose platforms that match. Students should start with Sahem and campus offices; residents with Qatar Living's Part-Time filter, LinkedIn and employer pages.
Tailor a short CV. Lead with skills relevant to the role, languages and any certificates such as food handling.
State real availability and location. Give exact days and hours, and where you can travel to.
Verify the employer and pay. Look up the company, and get the pay figure with its unit in writing.
Confirm the approval. Ask who applies for your permit and wait for it to be issued.
Get written terms before you start. Do not use an unpaid “trial shift”, a cash job or a freelance label as a way around authorization.
Questions to ask before accepting
Photo by Cytonn Photography on Unsplash. Read the written terms, including pay, hours and cancellation rules, before you sign or start.
What are the exact hours and duties?
Is pay guaranteed, and what is the rate and its unit (hour, shift, month)?
When and how is pay made?
Is transport provided or reimbursed?
Who applies for the permit, and when will it be issued?
What happens if a shift is canceled?
What notice applies on either side?
Who do I contact if there is a pay dispute?
If a dispute arises under a Labour Law contract, the Qatar labor complaint process applies. For part-time or freelance arrangements outside the Labour Law after the 2026 amendment, ask the Ministry which channel applies to you.
Avoiding part-time job scams
Verify independently before you share documents or money. Big brands are a common target, as our guide to spotting fake Qatar Airways job offers shows. Watch for:
Fees for a guaranteed job or permit. Treat any payment demand to secure a job as a serious warning sign.
Fake permits. A document sent by chat is not proof. Ask the employer for the official permit and check it through Ministry channels.
Requests for your QID, passport or bank details before a verified offer exists.
Requests for one-time passwords (OTPs). No genuine employer needs your OTP, and our Metrash security tips explain why you should never share one.
Impersonated recruiters using the names of well-known companies. Contact the company through its official website.
Pressure to start before paperwork is done.
WhatsApp contact or a free email address does not prove fraud on its own, since many small businesses in Qatar use both. It simply means you should verify the employer another way.
Final takeaway
Start with your status, not the job ad. Identify your route in the eligibility table, then search the platforms that suit it. Before any first shift, get written terms, a pay figure with its unit and the issued Ministry permit.
Yes, through authorized routes: a Ministry-approved permit for a second employer, a work permit for family residents, or Sahem and campus programs for students. Since the 2026 amendment, part-time workers sit outside the Labour Law until the Cabinet issues rules for them.
Can I work for two employers in Qatar?
Only with a Ministry of Labour permit for secondment or work outside normal hours. It requires your current employer's consent and is time-limited.
Can family residents work part-time in Qatar?
Yes, once a Ministry of Labour work permit is approved. Confirm the current documents and fee with the Ministry or the employer before starting.
Can I work on a visit visa in Qatar?
We found no official route for paid work on a tourist or family visit visa. Work requires an employer-led work permit and residence process.
Can students work off campus in Qatar?
Enrolled students can through Jusour's Sahem program, within its hour limits and with one employer at a time. Campus jobs follow each university's own rules.
How much do part-time jobs pay in Qatar?
There is no reliable published average. Universities publish hourly student rates, for example QR 55 to 60 at Georgetown Qatar, but most ads omit pay or its unit.
Where can I find evening or weekend jobs in Qatar?
Event staffing firms, hospitality employers and Qatar Living's Part-Time filter are good starting points. Confirm the shift times and the permit before accepting.
Do I need approval from my main employer for a second job?
Yes. The law requires both the employer and the worker to consent, and the Ministry of Labour issues the permit.
Does remote work avoid permit requirements in Qatar?
We found no official rule saying it does. Check with the Ministry of Labour before relying on remote work.
Can overseas applicants apply for part-time jobs in Qatar?
Yes, but you cannot start work until an employer-sponsored visa and residence process is complete. Many part-time ads only accept candidates already in Qatar.
