Teaching Jobs in Qatar 2026: Schools, Salary, Requirements & Visa
Where Qatar schools recruit teachers, what advertised salaries and packages actually show, how B.Ed, PGCE, QTS and TEFL differ, and how attestation and the work visa fit together.
Most teaching jobs in Qatar are with private international and community schools that recruit through their own careers pages, Tes or a portal linked from the school website, while government schools recruit through the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Pay varies widely by school: one British-curriculum school advertised GBP 3,300 to 3,500 a month including housing allowance, while a community-school advert from April 2026 offered QR4,100 to QR4,900 basic. Requirements are set mainly by each school, and the school sponsors your work visa.
Most teaching jobs in Qatar are with private international and community schools, and nearly all of them recruit directly: through their own careers pages, through education job boards such as Tes, or through a portal the school links from its website. Government schools recruit separately through the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE). There is no single national salary scale for private schools, so pay and benefits depend heavily on the school, its curriculum, your subject and whether you are hired from overseas or locally.
That is why advice found online often contradicts itself. A British-curriculum school recruiting a UK-trained math teacher may offer furnished housing, annual flights and free places for your children. A community school recruiting through a government agency in Pakistan advertised a basic salary of around QR4,100 to QR4,900 a month earlier in 2026. Both are real teaching jobs in Qatar. This guide shows how to tell which route suits you, what the evidence actually says about pay, and how qualifications, attestation and work visas fit together. For wider employment topics, see our Qatar jobs and salaries guides.
Important: QatarVia is an independent information website. We are not affiliated with any school or recruiter named here, we do not recruit, and we cannot process applications. Vacancy details were checked on 7 October 2026 and change quickly.
Teaching routes in Qatar at a glance
Each type of school sets its own requirements within the rules that apply to it. The qualifications below are what to check in the advert, not a guarantee of what every school in that group accepts.

Hourly or monthly pay, visa sponsorship, hours
This guide focuses on school teaching. University lecturing, teaching assistant posts, private tutoring and language-center work are different categories, with different hiring standards and pay. A teaching assistant is not a qualified classroom teacher, and assistant salaries should not be compared with teacher salaries.

Schools and official recruitment routes
The employers below were checked through their own websites on 7 October 2026. This is not a ranking. It shows where each school says it recruits, so you can apply directly and spot fake adverts that use a school’s name.
Ministry recruitment portal for residents; Kawader for Qatari nationals
Use only a current Ministry announcement; see the government section below
An external portal such as Tes, Workday, OpenApply or a group careers site can be entirely legitimate. The test is whether the school’s own website links to it. Some websites carry school or group names in their domain without any connection to that organization, so check ownership before treating a site as an official channel.

Government teaching jobs in Qatar
Government school recruitment runs in calls announced by MOEHE. In April and May 2025, Qatari media reported openings across 17 teaching specialties, with residents applying through the Ministry’s recruitment portal and Qatari nationals through Kawader. Earlier calls, such as one for 2023/2024, set conditions including several years of experience and a minimum grade. We found no new 2026/2027 teacher recruitment announcement when we checked, so treat older criteria as historical. Always check the current call on the MOEHE website before applying, and do not apply government criteria to private schools.
MOEHE also runs a Professional Licensing Program for teachers, coordinators and school leaders. Applications for the latest round were open in September 2026, according to The Peninsula. This is a professional license for working educators, assessed against practice and experience. It is not something overseas applicants need to arrange before applying for a private school job, and we found no current official statement making it a hiring condition for private schools.
Teacher salary in Qatar: what adverts actually show
Most school adverts do not publish a figure. Of the open Qatar teaching adverts we reviewed on Tes, almost all said “competitive” or “tax-free package” and listed benefits without pay. The table below shows the examples where an employer or its official recruiting agency stated actual figures. It is a set of examples, not a survey, and it should not be read as an average.

Secondary English Teacher and Secondary Maths Teacher, Durham School for Girls Doha
British, KS3 and IGCSE, Al Messila
GBP 3,300 to 3,500 a month

Female staff: shared furnished villa; male bachelor staff: QR700 housing allowance; return ticket every two years; summer salary “as per rules”; gratuity after one year
Elementary Maths and Primary Homeroom teachers, same OEC advert
British curriculum, primary
QR4,300 (bachelor’s) or QR4,700 (master’s) a month

The gap between these examples is the point. A British-curriculum package quoted in pounds, with housing folded in, is not comparable with a community-school salary quoted in riyals where housing is a separate QR700 allowance or a shared villa. Neither represents all teachers in Qatar. Head of department and leadership roles pay more than classroom posts, and teaching assistant posts pay less, so those are left out of the table.
Salary databases offer little help here. PayScale’s Qatar pages for secondary and primary school teachers were based on 10 and 7 salary profiles respectively when we checked, which is far too small a sample to rely on. General data on salary expectations in Qatar is useful for context, but it is not teacher-specific evidence.
What schools list instead of a figure
Open adverts from Doha College, Doha British School, GEMS Wellington School Qatar, Compass International School, Qatar International School and Al Jazeera Academy did not give a salary, but they did list benefits. Those lists differ in ways that change the real value of an offer:
Housing: some schools provide furnished accommodation with utilities paid; others pay a housing allowance; one community-school advert offered shared accommodation. A cash allowance may or may not cover rent in the area you want.
Flights: annual return flights are common in international-school adverts. The OEC advert offered a return ticket every two years.
Dependents: some adverts cover flights and medical for children; others cover the teacher only or one dependent.
Tuition: wording ranged from “free school places” to a “tuition concession for up to two children”. A discount is not a full fee waiver.
Gratuity: several adverts mention end-of-service gratuity. Al Jazeera Academy stated 21 days’ basic pay per year of service, which matches the Labour Law minimum of three weeks.
Basic pay, packages and tax
Always ask for the basic salary separately from allowances. End-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic pay, so two offers with the same monthly total can produce very different gratuities. Ask also whether you are paid over the summer, how a mid-year start affects your first summer, and whether the contract is fixed-term or indefinite.
Overseas-hire and local-hire teachers are often offered different packages. A teacher already living in Qatar, for example on a spouse’s residence, may be offered a salary without housing, flights or tuition, because the school assumes those are already covered.
Qatar does not impose income tax on employees’ salaries, wages and allowances, according to PwC’s Qatar tax summary. That does not mean you owe no tax anywhere. Some countries tax their citizens or residents on worldwide income: US citizens abroad must still file, for example. Check your home country’s rules before you move.
Qatar teacher requirements: qualifications and experience
It helps to separate three layers. First, official requirements, such as degree attestation and work visa conditions. Second, each school’s own requirements, which appear in its adverts. Third, preferences that improve your chances but are not conditions. Most of what competitor sites present as “Qatar rules” is in fact the second or third layer.
Degree and subject alignment
Every classroom teaching advert we reviewed asked for a bachelor’s degree, and most asked for one related to the subject. An art advert asked for a fine art or art and design degree; the OEC adverts asked for a B.S or M.S in English or mathematics. If your degree is in a different field from the subject you teach, expect questions.
B.Ed, PGCE, QTS and TEFL are not the same thing
B.Ed (Bachelor of Education): an undergraduate degree that includes teacher training. Many schools accept it as both the degree and the teaching qualification.
PGCE or PGDE: a postgraduate academic teaching qualification taken after a degree. The UK government’s Get Into Teaching guidance says courses can lead to QTS with a PGCE, QTS only or a PGCE without QTS. A PGCE does not automatically include QTS.
QTS (Qualified Teacher Status): a professional status for teaching in England, not a degree. According to GOV.UK, international PGCEs (often called iPGCE or PGCEi) do not lead to QTS, while iQTS does. Other countries have their own equivalents, such as state teaching licenses.
TEFL, TESOL and CELTA: qualifications for teaching English as a foreign language. CELTA is a well-known example. They suit language centers and some English support roles, but they do not replace a school-teaching qualification where an advert asks for one.
Schools phrase their requirements differently. GEMS Wellington School Qatar asked for a teaching degree plus QTS. Doha British School asked for a B.Ed or equivalent plus a PGCE or QTS. Sherborne Qatar accepted a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent. Read the exact wording of each advert.

Online and distance qualifications
Compass International School’s advert says applicants must meet Qatar visa restrictions, including a bachelor’s degree and a teaching qualification from a face-to-face, non-online course. Other schools make similar statements. We could not find an official published rule on this, but because schools and their visa teams apply it, check with the school before relying on an online degree or online PGCE. MOFA’s attestation service also requires degrees to come from universities on MOEHE’s list of accredited universities.
Experience, age and other conditions
There is no single legal minimum of two years’ experience. Adverts varied: one Doha Academy advert asked for two years, Durham School for Girls Doha asked for three for primary, Newton International Academy asked for four, and the OEC adverts asked for three. Qatar International School said strong early career teachers would be considered. Sherborne Qatar’s advert said applicants must be under 50 because of work visa restrictions. We found no official published age limit, so treat any age condition as the school’s stated requirement and ask about it directly.
Safeguarding checks are routine. British-curriculum adverts often ask for an enhanced DBS check or an international equivalent, together with a police certificate from each country you have lived in (for time spent in Qatar, that means a Qatar police clearance certificate). Several adverts list SEND and inclusion experience, curriculum knowledge and English fluency as essential or desirable.
Can freshers or applicants without a B.Ed apply?
Some can, but the route matters. Qatar International School’s January 2027 primary advert said strong early career teachers would be considered, which means newly qualified teachers with a recognized qualification, not people with no teacher training. Most international-school adverts we reviewed asked for a recognized teaching qualification and some experience.
Not having a B.Ed is not the same as being unqualified. A subject degree plus a PGCE, PGDE, QTS or a recognized national teaching license meets many schools’ requirements. Graduates with no teaching qualification are more likely to find teaching assistant, language-center or tutoring roles, which are separate jobs and are usually paid less.
Where to find teaching vacancies in Qatar
School and group careers pages: the most reliable source, because the school controls them.
Tes Qatar search: showed 54 Qatar listings when we checked, mostly British-curriculum schools. Several schools, including Sherborne Qatar, say to apply only through Tes.
LinkedIn, Bayt and Indeed: useful for community schools, nurseries and training centers, and our guide to the best job sites in Qatar compares them. Confirm every listing on the school’s own site.
Government overseas employment agencies: for example Pakistan’s Overseas Employment Corporation, which has published teacher adverts for Qatar schools.
Education recruiters: some are reputable, but no recruiter is officially approved for teacher hiring by default. Check that the school confirms the recruiter.
When to apply for teaching jobs in Qatar
Qatar’s private schools generally start their academic year in August or September. The adverts we checked in early October 2026 suggest a clear pattern rather than a rule:
August 2027 starts: some schools were already recruiting. Doha College’s math advert closed on 15 October 2026 for an August 2027 start.
January 2027 starts: many adverts targeted the second term, with closing dates from October 2026 to 1 January 2027.
Immediate starts: several schools sought teachers to fill posts in the 2026/2027 year, usually suiting candidates who are already in Qatar or can relocate quickly.
For an August start, it is sensible to watch for adverts from autumn of the previous year, and many international schools close applications early once they find suitable candidates.
How to apply for teaching jobs in Qatar
Select roles that match your subject, age group and curriculum experience.
Read the qualification and location criteria, including any notes on visa restrictions or applicants already in Qatar.
Verify the school and the application route on the school’s own website.
Tailor your CV and cover letter to the curriculum and the school’s stated values.
Prepare references and portfolio evidence, including your current or most recent head teacher.
Complete interviews and any demonstration lesson, often online for overseas candidates.
Compare the written offer against the checklist below before accepting.
Complete documents and work authorization with the school’s HR team.
Teacher CV and interview preparation
International schools typically shortlist quickly, so make the essentials easy to find on the first page of your CV:
Your degree, teaching qualification and professional status, with awarding institutions and dates.
Subjects and year groups taught, and curricula used (for example National Curriculum, IGCSE, IB, CBSE or Common Core).
Evidence of outcomes, such as improved results or progress data, described without identifying pupils.
Assessment, classroom management and differentiation strategies.
SEND and inclusion experience where relevant.
Safeguarding training and awareness.
Recent professional development.
Referees who have supervised your teaching, ideally including your current head teacher.
Interviews often explore safeguarding scenarios, how you adapt lessons for learners with English as an additional language, and how you would support a school’s values. If you share a portfolio, use anonymized examples. Do not include pupil names, identifiable records or photographs of students.

Documents and degree attestation for Qatar
Four separate processes are often confused:
Attestation (legalization): confirms that a document is genuine, through a chain of stamps.
Academic recognition or equivalency: MOEHE’s equivalency service assesses university degrees. It is needed in some routes, particularly in the public sector, and your employer will tell you if it applies.
Employer approval: the school decides whether your qualifications meet the role.
Immigration and work authorization: handled through the employer and the Ministry of Interior.
An attested certificate proves it is genuine, but not that it meets every school’s teaching requirement.
For degrees issued abroad, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires the document to carry the issuing country’s required seals ending with a Qatari mission’s seal, and a bachelor’s degree must be submitted with its transcript. MOFA listed a fee of QR100 when we checked. MOFA also offers a service to complete attestation outside Qatar through its missions, with its own fees. Qatar is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not a substitute for this process.
The steps before the Qatari embassy depend on your country. In Pakistan, degrees are first attested by the Higher Education Commission, then by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs under its published checklist, before the Qatari embassy. Indian documents for Qatar need the Ministry of External Affairs’ normal attestation, not an apostille, as the Indian Embassy in Doha explains. Check the current steps with your own authorities, because costs and timings change.
Documents a school may ask for include:
Degree certificate and transcript, attested.
Teaching qualification certificate, and QTS or license evidence where relevant.
Experience letters from previous schools.
Police certificates, and an enhanced DBS or equivalent where the school asks.
Passport copy and photographs, and marriage and birth certificates if dependents are joining.
Ask the school exactly which documents need attestation before you start. Attesting documents you do not need costs time and money.
Visa and work authorization for teachers
Applicants overseas
A school must sponsor your work visa; you cannot apply on your own. After you accept the offer, the school applies for your entry permit. Applicants from countries with a Qatar Visa Center, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, usually complete biometrics, a medical test and contract signing there. Our Qatar Visa Center (QVC) guide explains those steps. After arrival, the school applies for your Residence Permit (QID). Some steps, such as fingerprinting or a medical check, may happen in Qatar depending on your route, and the school’s HR team will tell you what applies. Read our Qatar work visa process guide for the full sequence. No one can promise approval or a fixed processing time.
Teachers already working in Qatar
Private school teachers are generally covered by the Labour Law. Since 2020, private-sector workers have been able to move to a new employer without a no-objection certificate, provided they follow the official notice process. That reform removed the NOC requirement; it did not end employer-sponsored residence. See our guide to changing employers in Qatar. Government school staff are employed under separate civil human resources rules, so those private-sector procedures may not apply.
Family residents
Many teachers in Qatar live on a spouse’s or parent’s residence permit. The Ministry of Labour offers services that let family-sponsored residents join the labor market, with the employer applying for the necessary approval and the contract being authenticated. Marhaba’s June 2025 report on the service describes residence moving to employment-based residency, but whether that happens in your case depends on the route and your circumstances, so do not assume it either way. Ask the school which route it will use, and do not start work until the approval is issued. Note that a Qatar family visit visa is not the same as family residence, and neither a tourist visa nor a visit visa is permission to teach.
Offer checklist before you accept
Check
What to ask
Salary
Basic salary and each allowance listed separately, in QAR or the stated currency, per month
Workload
Teaching periods per week, contact hours, cover, duties and after-school activities
Housing
Furnished accommodation or allowance; single or shared; utilities included or not
Dependents
Which family members get flights, medical cover and tuition benefit
Summer pay

Costs
Who pays for visas, medical tests, attestation and relocation
Costs deserve attention. The OEC advert of April 2026 said candidates would pay initial government fees, attestation charges and airfare. Qatari law bars licensed recruitment agencies from charging workers recruitment fees or related costs, as summarized by the International Labour Organization, so ask who pays for each item before you accept. Once you are in Qatar, check your employment contract in Qatar to confirm the terms match your offer.
Teaching recruitment scams
Fake adverts often copy the names of well-known schools. Warning signs include:
Email addresses or links that do not match the school’s official domain, or that use free email accounts.
A “guaranteed job” or visa in return for a fee.
Offers made without an interview or a demonstration lesson.
Early requests for bank details, full passport scans or ID documents before a verified offer.
Pressure to decide quickly or move the conversation to WhatsApp.
Verify any suspicious contact using phone numbers and email addresses you find yourself on the school’s official website. A portal that the school’s website links to is fine; one it does not mention is not. If a dispute arises with a private-sector employer after you start work, the Qatar labor complaint process covers workers under the Labour Law.
Next step
Pick three or four schools whose curriculum matches your experience, check their own careers pages and Tes listings, and ask early which of your documents need attestation. That one question often saves weeks once an offer arrives.

Most school adverts ask for a bachelor's degree related to your subject plus a recognized teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, QTS or a national teaching license. Exact requirements are set by each school, so read the advert. Your degree will also need attestation for the work visa.
How much do teachers earn in Qatar?
It varies widely and most adverts do not publish figures. Durham School for Girls Doha advertised GBP 3,300 to 3,500 a month including housing allowance, while a community-school advert through Pakistan's OEC in April 2026 offered QR4,100 to QR4,900 basic plus allowances. Neither is a national average.
Is a B.Ed compulsory to teach in Qatar?
No single rule requires a B.Ed for every school. Many schools accept a subject degree plus a PGCE, PGDE, QTS or equivalent instead. Some adverts specifically ask for a B.Ed, so check the wording of each vacancy.
Is a PGCE enough to teach in Qatar?
For many international schools a subject degree plus a PGCE is acceptable, but some ask for QTS as well. A PGCE does not automatically include QTS, and an international or online PGCE does not lead to QTS. Some schools also state that the teaching qualification must come from a face-to-face course.
Can Pakistani or Indian teachers apply for teaching jobs in Qatar?
Yes. Applications depend on qualifications, experience and each vacancy's criteria, not nationality alone. Community schools and government overseas employment agencies such as Pakistan's OEC recruit for Qatar, and international schools consider applicants who meet their requirements. Degrees need home-country and Qatari embassy attestation.
Can freshers get teaching jobs in Qatar?
Some schools consider newly qualified teachers who hold a recognized teaching qualification, and one January 2027 primary advert said strong early career teachers would be considered. Graduates without teacher training are more likely to find teaching assistant, tutoring or language-center roles.
Do Qatar schools provide accommodation for teachers?
Many international schools hiring from overseas provide furnished accommodation or a housing allowance, but not all, and some community-school adverts offer shared housing or a small allowance. Teachers hired locally may receive no housing benefit. Confirm the details in the written offer.
Can family residents work as teachers in Qatar?
Yes, many do. The school applies to the Ministry of Labour for approval for a family-sponsored resident to work. Whether your residence moves to the employer depends on the route, so ask the school, and do not start work until approval is issued.
Who arranges the work visa for teachers?
The school, as your sponsoring employer, applies for your entry permit and later your Residence Permit. Applicants in countries with a Qatar Visa Center usually complete biometrics, a medical test and contract signing there. No one can guarantee approval or a fixed processing time.
When should teachers apply for jobs in Qatar?
For an August start, international schools often advertise from the autumn of the previous year. Adverts checked in October 2026 included August 2027 roles, many January 2027 starts and some immediate vacancies, so it is worth watching listings throughout the year.
I’m Sheikh Baber Ali, a writer and editor at QatarVia. I’m naturally curious about how things work and enjoy digging into the details behind the questions people have about living, working, and getting around in Qatar. My approach is simple: research carefully, check the details, and explain things the way I’d want someone to explain them to me. I’m always looking for useful stories, changing information, and practical details worth sharing with our readers.
