Operating hours and first and last train times in this guide come from Qatar Rail's official station timetables on metrotram.qa, checked in October 2026. Fares are the figures consistently reported by Qatar Rail-affiliated and Qatar tourism sources. Hours change for Ramadan, public holidays and major events, so check the Qatar Rail app before a very early or very late trip.
Doha Metro Map 2026
The Doha Metro map below shows the three color-coded lines and the two stations where you can change between them. It is an original QatarVia schematic built from verified Qatar Rail network data, not a reproduction of Qatar Rail's own map artwork, and it is simplified to show how the lines relate to each other.
For the official, geographically accurate map with live service updates, use the Qatar Rail app or the network map on metrotram.qa, Qatar Rail's metro and tram site, which also has a downloadable pocket map and a page for every station.
In outline: the Red Line is the longest and busiest, running along the coast from Lusail in the north through West Bay and downtown to Oqba Ibn Nafie, where it splits into two southern branches, one to Hamad International Airport and one to Al Wakra. The Green Line runs east to west through Education City and out to Al Riffa and Mall of Qatar. The Gold Line runs through the older, culturally significant parts of the city, including Souq Waqif and the National Museum of Qatar. All three meet at Msheireb station in the city center.
Doha Metro Lines: Red, Green and Gold
Red Line (Coastal Line)
The Red Line, also called the Coastal Line, is the busiest and most useful line for visitors. It runs about 40 km from Al Wakra in the south to Lusail in the north, with 18 stations, and it is the only line that reaches Hamad International Airport. Trains from both southern branches run through to Lusail QNB, so heading north you never need to change; only a trip between the airport and Al Wakra needs a change at Oqba Ibn Nafie.
Airport connection: Hamad Intl Airport T1 station, at the end of the airport branch that splits from the main line at Oqba Ibn Nafie
Major destinations: West Bay, the Corniche, Katara Cultural Village (Katara station), Qatar University, and Lusail
Interchanges: Msheireb (with Green and Gold), Al Bidda (with Green), Legtaifiya and Lusail QNB (with the Lusail Tram)
Green Line (Education Line)
The Green Line, also called the Education Line, runs about 22 km east to west with 11 stations, from Al Mansoura to Al Riffa, where the western terminus is branded "Al Riffa - Mall of Qatar" and connects directly to the mall by a pedestrian bridge.
Major destinations: Education City, Hamad Hospital, Al Shaqab, Qatar National Library, Mall of Qatar
Interchanges: Msheireb (with Red and Gold), Al Bidda (with Red)
Gold Line (Historic Line)
The Gold Line, also called the Historic Line, runs about 14 km with 11 stations, from Ras Bu Abboud in the east to Al Aziziyah in the west. It covers Doha's older, more culturally significant districts, and its Souq Waqif station is the easiest way to reach Souq Waqif market without fighting for parking.
Major destinations: Souq Waqif, the National Museum of Qatar (and, with a walk, the Museum of Islamic Art), Sport City, Al Aziziyah
Interchanges: Msheireb (with Red and Green)

Where to Change Lines
You can change lines at two stations, Msheireb and Al Bidda. Knowing which lines meet where makes the whole network much less intimidating for a first-time rider.
Msheireb is the main hub, where the Red, Green and Gold lines all meet. If your journey needs two lines, it almost always routes through here.
Al Bidda connects the Red and Green lines only, a useful shortcut if you are traveling between those two lines and do not need the Gold Line.
Changing lines at either station means walking to a different platform within the same station. You do not need to tap out and back in again to change lines, only when you finish your journey and leave the network.
Doha Metro Timings: Weekday and Friday Hours
Doha Metro timings are 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM from Saturday to Thursday, and 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM on Friday, according to Qatar Rail. The later Friday start is the one to plan around. The first trains leave most stations shortly after opening, and the last trains leave between about 12:10 AM and 1:10 AM, depending on the station and direction.

Hours change for Ramadan, holidays and big events
Qatar Rail publishes special hours for Ramadan and major occasions. During Ramadan 2026, for example, the metro ran from 5:30 AM to 1:30 AM Saturday to Thursday and from 9:30 AM to 1:30 AM on Friday, and service is often extended on nights such as New Year's Eve. Check the Qatar Rail app or its social media channels the day before if your trip falls on a holiday.
These are network operating hours, not the first or last train time from every individual station. A station near the end of a line has a different first and last train from one in the center, since the train still has to travel the full length of the line. If you are planning a very early or very late journey, check the specific timetable for your station in the Qatar Rail app or on its station page at metrotram.qa rather than assuming the network's general hours apply exactly where you are standing.

The daily cap means a Standard traveler never pays more than QAR 6 in a single day no matter how many journeys they take, and the same logic applies to Gold Club at QAR 30. Passes activate from the date you first tap in and give unlimited travel on both the Doha Metro and the Lusail Tram for their duration.
Children under 5 travel free. Children aged 5 and over need their own travel card and pay the same fare as an adult.
Every train has Standard, Gold Club and Family carriages. Anyone can use the Standard and Family carriages, but the Gold Club carriage requires a Gold Club card.
Which Ticket Should You Buy?
For most people a Standard Travel Card is the right choice: QAR 10 for the card, QAR 2 a trip, and never more than QAR 6 in a day. Daily commuters save with the 30-day pass at QAR 120, and a Gold Club card only makes sense if a quieter, roomier carriage matters to you.
Your situation
Best option
One-off journey, e.g. airport to hotel
Standard single journey (QAR 2)
Several journeys in one day
Standard Travel Card, capped at QAR 6 that day
A one-week visit with daily sightseeing
Weekly pass (QAR 40)
A regular commuter, more than a month in Qatar
30-day pass (QAR 120), or the annual pass if staying a year or more
Want extra space and a quieter carriage
Gold Club card (QAR 100) plus Gold Club fares
For most visitors on a short trip, a Standard Travel Card bought at the first station you use is simpler than working out single tickets for every leg, since the daily cap protects you from overpaying automatically.
How Much Does a Day of Travel Cost?
A full day on the Doha Metro costs at most QAR 6 on a Standard card, and QAR 30 in Gold Club. Because Standard fares are capped at QAR 6 a day, the cost per journey falls the more you ride, until the cap takes over after your third trip.

QAR 2
2 journeys
QAR 4
3 journeys
QAR 6 (cap reached)
4 or more journeys
QAR 6 (cap stays at QAR 6 for the rest of the day)
In practice, once you make a third trip in a day, such as hotel to Souq Waqif, Souq Waqif to the National Museum, and back to the hotel, every further journey that day is already covered by the QAR 6 you have paid.
How to Buy and Top Up a Metro Card
You can buy a metro card at any station vending machine or at licensed shops around Doha. A Standard Travel Card costs QAR 10 the first time you buy it, and you can then top it up as needed. Cards are sold at:
A Gold Club card costs QAR 100 and can only be bought at a Gold Club office inside a metro station, not at retailers or vending machines.
To top up, use the station vending machines, the Qatar Rail app, or the online top-up service. A minimum top-up is QAR 5, and a card can hold a maximum balance of QAR 500.
To enter a station, tap your card on the gate reader. You tap in again to enter and tap out when you finish your journey and leave the network, not each time you change lines at an interchange. There is a 90-minute limit from tap-in to tap-out, which is enough for any realistic journey across the network including a change of line, but you will be charged extra if you exceed it.
Your First Ride, Step by Step
Buy or top up a Standard or Gold Club travel card at a station vending machine, a licensed retailer, or the Gold Club office.
Tap your card on the gate reader to enter the station.
Check the platform display for your line and the direction (the final station name on the train shows which way it is heading).
Board the train. Standard, Family and Gold Club carriages are marked on the platform and on the train itself.
If your journey needs a different line, get off at Msheireb or Al Bidda and follow the signs to the connecting platform. You do not need to tap out to change lines.
Tap out at the gate when you reach your final station and leave the network.
Hamad International Airport to Doha by Metro
The Red Line runs straight from the airport into the city. Hamad Intl Airport T1 is the only station serving Hamad International Airport, and trains leave it for Lusail QNB from 5:07 AM (9:00 AM on Friday), with the last departure at 12:21 AM (12:14 AM on Friday). From arrivals, the station is reached by crossing past the short-term car park rather than being immediately outside the terminal doors, so allow a few extra minutes for the walk.
A single journey from the airport costs the same QAR 2 Standard fare as anywhere else on the network. Buy or top up your card at the airport station before boarding.

How to Find the Nearest Metro Station Near You
The quickest way to find the nearest metro station near you is the official Qatar Rail app: allow location access and its station finder shows the closest Doha Metro and Lusail Tram stations, then Plan My Journey gives you the full route. Google Maps works too and gives you walking directions to the station.
Qatar Rail app: install the official app from Qatar Rail on iPhone or Android, turn on location, and open the nearest station feature. The same app plans journeys, shows live service updates and tops up your travel card.
Google Maps: with location on, search "metro station" and Google Maps lists the stations closest to you with walking directions. Check that the result is a Doha Metro station and not a bus stop with a similar name.
Plan My Journey online: on a laptop, Qatar Rail's Plan My Journey tool plans a metro and tram route between any two points you type in.
Too far to walk? Many stations have free Metrolink feeder buses to the surrounding neighborhoods. Each station's page on metrotram.qa lists the Metrolink routes that serve it.
Popular areas and their closest stations
Many stations are named after the district they serve, which makes the network easy to read once you know the names. Large districts can be closer to a neighboring station at one end, so confirm the walking time in the app.

Every route above that needs a line change routes through Msheireb, which is worth remembering: if you are unsure how to connect two points on the network, Msheireb is almost always the answer. From Katara station it is a short walk into Katara Cultural Village, with its beach, amphitheater and restaurants, which makes it one of the easiest evening trips by metro.
Tips for Tourists
The metro is genuinely the easiest way for a visitor to get around central Doha, and most of the best places to visit in Qatar inside the city sit near a station. Most visitors arrive in Qatar on a Hayya travel permit; once that is approved, working out how you will actually get around the city, starting with the Hayya card application process if you have not completed it yet, is worth doing before you land.
Do you need cash? No, travel cards are bought and topped up with a card or at the station machines, and Standard cards are also sold at supermarkets and pharmacies around the city.
Is English used on signage? Yes, station names, platform displays and announcements are in both Arabic and English.
Is it safe? Stations are staffed, air-conditioned and monitored, with separate prayer rooms and restrooms.
Can I use it for a day trip without a plan? Yes, a Standard Travel Card with the QAR 6 daily cap covers unlimited journeys that day, so you can hop on and off without working out fares in advance.
If you are choosing between driving and the metro for your trip, our guide to checking and paying Qatar traffic fines is useful background if you do end up renting a car for part of your stay.
Traveling With Children
Children under 5 travel free and do not need their own card.
Children aged 5 and over need their own travel card and pay the same fare as an adult.
Every train includes a Family carriage in addition to Standard and Gold Club carriages, intended for families and women traveling with children.
Stations have accessible routes, lifts and family restrooms.
QatarVia could not verify a published stroller or buggy policy beyond general accessibility provisions, so if you are traveling with a pram, allow extra time at gates and lifts and ask station staff if you need assistance.
Connecting to the Lusail Tram
The Lusail Tram is a separate network in Lusail City, with four lines (Orange, Pink, Purple and Turquoise) across about 19 km and 25 stations. It is operated by Qatar Rail alongside the metro, and the same travel card works on both.
The two networks connect at Legtaifiya station, where the Red Line meets the tram's Orange and Pink lines, and at Lusail QNB, a newer interchange that opened with the tram's Turquoise Line. If your destination is inside Lusail City itself, such as the areas around Lusail Boulevard or Lusail Stadium, you will generally take the Red Line to one of these interchange stations and continue on the tram.
For an evening on Lusail Boulevard, ride the Red Line to Lusail QNB, its last stop, and either walk or switch to the tram there using the same card.
Tram hours run later than the metro's: 5:00 AM to 1:30 AM Saturday to Thursday, and 2:00 PM to 1:30 AM on Friday, so a Friday morning trip into Lusail City means the metro plus a taxi or a walk. As with the metro, confirm the current schedule on metrotram.qa before an early or late journey.
What If Your Destination Is Not Near a Station?
For places the metro does not reach directly, Qatar Rail runs Metrolink, a free feeder bus service connecting several metro stations to nearby neighborhoods and destinations. Check the Metrolink routes for your station in the Qatar Rail app, since coverage varies station by station.
Beyond Metrolink, a taxi or ride-hailing app is the practical option for the final stretch, particularly for destinations like The Pearl that sit outside both the metro and tram networks.
Keep your card topped up before you travel. There is no way to add credit once you are already through the gate without leaving the paid area.
The Gold Club carriage is checked. Sitting there on a Standard card can mean an inspector asks you to move or pay the difference.
Stations are cold. Qatar's metro is heavily air-conditioned year-round, so a light layer is worth carrying even in the hottest months of the Qatar summer.
Luggage is allowed but not officially unlimited. For a large suitcase from the airport, use a lift rather than an escalator, and expect the platform to be busier around flight arrival banks.
Save your line's terminus names. Trains are signed by their final station, not by line color alone, so knowing your line's two end points helps you find the right platform quickly.
Final Summary
The Doha Metro map is simple once you know it: a 3-line, 37-station network connecting Hamad International Airport, central Doha and Lusail, with a Standard single fare of QAR 2 and a daily cap of QAR 6. Trains run 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM Saturday to Thursday and 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM on Friday. Msheireb is the station to remember, since it is where all three lines meet and where most cross-city journeys change trains.
For a short visit, a Standard Travel Card bought at your first station covers everything you need, with the daily cap protecting you from overpaying. For anything the metro doesn't reach directly, such as The Pearl, use the Lusail Tram, Metrolink, or a taxi for the final stretch.

Editorial review note. This guide was researched using Qatar Rail's official station timetables and network data on metrotram.qa, Visit Qatar's official Doha Metro guide, Qatar's Ministry of Transport, Hamad International Airport's own transport page, and Qatar Rail service-hour announcements reported by Gulf Times and Qatar Tribune. Where a figure could not be confirmed on a primary source, such as journey times between stations, this guide says so rather than presenting it as certain. Readers planning a time-sensitive journey should confirm current hours and fares on the Qatar Rail app or metrotram.qa directly.

Do children travel free?
Children under 5 travel free. Children aged 5 and over need their own card and pay the standard adult fare.
I’m Sheikh Baber Ali, a writer and editor at QatarVia. I’m naturally curious about how things work and enjoy digging into the details behind the questions people have about living, working, and getting around in Qatar. My approach is simple: research carefully, check the details, and explain things the way I’d want someone to explain them to me. I’m always looking for useful stories, changing information, and practical details worth sharing with our readers.
