QID Check Online: Qatar ID Status, Expiry and Renewal (2026 Guide)
How to do a free QID check on the official MOI portal: Qatar ID status, validity and expiry date, renewal tracking, and card delivery through Qatar Post.
To do a QID check, open portal.moi.gov.qa, switch to English, and go to Inquiries, then Other Inquiries, then Official Documents. Choose QID Number or Passport Number, enter your nationality and date of birth, complete the verification code, and select Search. For a renewal in progress use RP Renewal Tracking under Residency Permits Inquiry instead. All MOI checks are free and need no login.
Open portal.moi.gov.qa and switch the site to English.
Go to Inquiries, then Other Inquiries, then Official Documents.
Choose QID Number or Passport Number and enter the number.
Select your nationality and enter your date of birth (yyyy/mm/dd).
Type the verification code and select Search to see your status and expiry date.
A QID check, also called a Qatar ID check, tells you whether your QID, the residency card issued by Qatar's Ministry of Interior (MOI), is currently valid, expired, under process, or canceled, and when it expires. You can run the check for free on the MOI portal using your 11-digit QID number or your passport number. No login, no app, and no fee are required.
This guide covers the four MOI services people usually mean when they search for a QID check: the basic status and validity inquiry, QID renewal status, card delivery tracking through Qatar Post, and what to do if your result suggests the permit was canceled.
Quick answer: Go to portal.moi.gov.qa, switch the site to English, open Inquiries, then Other Inquiries, then Official Documents. Choose QID Number or Passport Number, enter your details along with your date of birth, complete the verification code, and select Search.
Free, no account needed, opens the official Ministry of Interior website.
A quick note on who we are: QatarVia is an independent information site. We are not affiliated with the Ministry of Interior or any government body, we don't check government records ourselves, and we never ask for your QID or passport number. Every check described here happens on the official MOI website linked throughout this guide.

All four are public inquiries on portal.moi.gov.qa. Each one is free, needs no account, and asks only for the details above plus a verification code. Pick the row that matches your question, because each service answers a different one.
What You Need Before You Start
The MOI form is short, but every field has to match your record exactly, or it returns nothing.
Your QID number. The 11-digit number printed on the front of your card. Enter digits only, no spaces or dashes.
Your passport number, if you don't have a QID number yet. Use the passport currently linked to your residency file. If you renewed your passport recently, try the older number first.
Your nationality, selected from a dropdown, matching your residency record.
Your date of birth, entered in yyyy/mm/dd order. This single field trips up more people than any other part of the form.
A verification code, shown as an image, with a refresh button and an audio option if it's hard to read.
JavaScript enabled in your browser. The form is interactive and won't load without it.
That's the full list. If your QID number does not change when your card gets renewed or replaced, a number you saved a year ago still works today, so it's worth keeping a photo or note of it somewhere you can reach without the physical card.
One quick note on the number itself: the 11 digits are a unique identifier assigned by MOI when your residency record is created. We haven't found a verified official breakdown of what each digit represents, so treat any "decoder" claims you see online with skepticism and just use the full number as printed.
If you searched for this in Hindi (कतर आईडी चेक) or Bengali (কাতার আইডি চেক), the MOI portal itself is offered in Arabic and English. Switch it to English and look for the same field names used in this guide: QID Number, Passport Number, Nationality, and Date Of Birth.
How Do I Do a QID Check Online?
Open portal.moi.gov.qa, switch it to English, and go to Inquiries, then Other Inquiries, then Official Documents. Pick QID Number or Passport Number, fill in your nationality and date of birth, type the verification code, and select Search. The result shows the expiry date MOI holds for your document, which is the core of any MOI QID check.
Open the MOI portal. Go to portal.moi.gov.qa. It loads in Arabic by default, so use the language link at the top to switch to English.
Select Inquiries. This is the read-only lookup section of MOI Services and doesn't require an account.
Choose Other Inquiries. You'll also see Traffic Inquiries, Visa Services, Exit & Entry Permits, Residency Permits Inquiry, Metrash, QPost Services, and a few others in this same menu.
Open Official Documents. This is the form that searches by QID or passport number.
Fill in your details, including nationality where required and your date of birth in yyyy/mm/dd order.
Enter the verification code and select Search. If you need to start over, use Reset rather than editing a half-filled form, since a fresh code loads each time.
Bookmark the Official Documents page directly once you've found it. It's a public service page, so you can skip the menu navigation on every future visit.
QID Status Check by QID Number
This is the faster route if you have the card or the number saved, and it avoids the old-passport problem described in the next section. To check your QID this way:
Select the QID Number option on the form.
Enter all 11 digits with no separators.
Fill in the remaining fields, including date of birth.
Enter the code and select Search.
Checking by Passport Number (No QID Yet)
This is the method for new arrivals whose card hasn't been issued, or for anyone checking on someone else's status without holding their physical card.
Select the Passport Number option.
Enter the number exactly as printed, no spaces.
Choose your nationality from the dropdown.
Enter your date of birth in yyyy/mm/dd order.
Complete the code and select Search.
Two situations come up often here. If you recently renewed your passport, the number you're holding may not be the one linked to your file yet, so try the older passport or use your QID number instead. And if you've just landed in Qatar, a blank result is often not an error at all: it just means your residency file hasn't reached the stage where an official document record exists yet. Your employer or sponsor can tell you where the application currently stands.
New arrivals also have to finish the medical test before a residence permit can be issued, so a missing record at that stage is normal. Our Medical Commission Qatar guide explains that step and how to check your medical result.
Is There a QID Check App?
Not a separate one, and that's worth saying plainly because a few unofficial apps market themselves this way. The only official mobile channel is Metrash, MOI's own app, covering Metrash for Individuals, Metrash for Companies, and a Secondary Subscription option that lets a second number receive Metrash messages.
Metrash assumes you already hold a QID and a Qatar mobile subscription, so it's the right tool once you're set up, not the tool for someone still waiting on a first residence permit. If you're in that position, use the website inquiry above instead. If you are setting the app up for the first time, our Metrash registration guide covers sign-up and OTP problems.
To check your status through Metrash:
Install the current Metrash app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and confirm the publisher is listed as the Ministry of Interior before installing.
Complete sign-in with your QID.
Open the documents section of the app and select your Qatar ID.
Menu wording shifts between app releases, so if a label mentioned here doesn't match your screen, look for the nearest equivalent (documents, wallet, or similar) rather than assuming the feature disappeared. You may also see older guides referencing an SMS shortcode check; we couldn't confirm that's still active on a current official MOI page, so stick to the portal or Metrash rather than relying on it.
Understanding Your Result
MOI doesn't publish a fixed list of every status label, so treat this as a guide to general meaning and rely on the dates in your own result over any single word.
Result
What it generally means
What to do next
Valid / Active
Your permit is in force; expiry date shown
Note the date, check again before it's close
Expired
Recorded expiry has passed with no renewal reflected
Contact your sponsor the same day
Under process / Under renewal
An application exists but hasn't completed
Get the reference and follow it in RP Renewal Tracking
Canceled
The residency record has ended
Speak to your sponsor and visit a service center; different from a simple expiry
No record found
Usually a detail mismatch, not a residency problem
Recheck the number, nationality, and date of birth; try the other search method
An empty result is not the same as bad news. Work through the checks below before assuming anything about your residency.
How to Tell if Your QID Has Been Canceled
Run the same Official Documents inquiry. If your residence permit has been canceled, the result will not show a valid permit with a future expiry date. MOI doesn't publish its exact status wording, so if the result looks wrong, or doesn't match the card in your hand, ask your sponsor and confirm with MOI before you travel or accept a new job.
A cancellation is different from an expiry. An expired permit is one the sponsor hasn't renewed yet, while a canceled permit means the residency record itself has been closed, which normally happens through the sponsor, for example when a job ends or a family member leaves Qatar for good. The physical card doesn't change when this happens, so the card alone can't tell you.
If you suspect a cancellation you weren't told about, also check whether anything else is open on your file, such as a travel ban in Qatar, before you plan any travel.
For anything you need confirmed in person, take your passport and card to an MOI service center such as the Duhail Immigration Office, or use the contact options on MOI's official Contact Us page.
Why a Qatar ID Check Returns No Result
Wrong digit count. There should be exactly 11 digits, no spaces or dashes. Compare each one against the card instead of typing from memory; zero and the letter O are easy to mix up on a worn card.
Nationality mismatch. It has to match your residency record and be picked from the dropdown as MOI lists it, which isn't always how you'd phrase it yourself.
Date of birth in the wrong order. The form expects yyyy/mm/dd. Entering day-first or month-first will fail the match even if every other field is correct.
Verification code errors. The code is case-sensitive and resets on every reload. Use refresh for a new one instead of retyping an old code, and turn off browser autofill on that field.
A blank result either way. Try the alternate search method. QID and passport searches read the same underlying record, so if one works and the other doesn't, the input was the problem, not your file.
Page won't load at all. Confirm JavaScript is on, clear your cache, or try a different browser. Government portals get busiest during Qatar working hours.
Renewal submitted but the record hasn't updated. Official Documents shows your record as it currently stands. If you're waiting on a renewal in progress, use RP Renewal Tracking instead, which is built for that specific purpose.
A QID validity check uses the same Official Documents inquiry, which MOI describes as the place to look up expiry dates of official documents such as your ID card, passport, and residence permit. Enter your QID or passport number with your date of birth, and the result shows the expiry date on your current record.
Three places should all agree with each other.
The card itself. The date is printed on the front. Qatar formats dates day-first, so 03/09/2026 reads as September 3, not March 9.
The MOI Official Documents inquiry. This reflects your record as it stands right now, and it can actually be ahead of the physical card, since renewals are recorded electronically before a new card is printed.
The Metrash app, if you already hold a QID and subscription.
A habit worth building: check every QID under your sponsorship, not just your own, a few times a year. Each family member's permit carries its own expiry date and its own file.
How Do I Check My QID Renewal Status?
Use RP Renewal Tracking, not Official Documents. On the MOI portal go to Inquiries, then Residency Permits Inquiry, then RP Renewal Tracking. Enter the QID number of the sponsor or of the permit holder, type the verification code, and search. The service is built to follow the status of a residence permit renewal request that has already been submitted.
Open portal.moi.gov.qa and switch the site to English.
Select Inquiries, then Residency Permits Inquiry.
Choose RP Renewal Tracking.
Enter the QID number. MOI accepts the personal ID number of either the sponsor or the residence permit holder.
Type the verification code (an audio option is available) and run the search.
Renewal tracking and the basic status check sound similar, but they're different MOI services, and mixing them up is the single most common reason people think a check "isn't working."
Is my document valid right now? That's Other Inquiries → Official Documents, the check this guide covers.
Where has my renewal application reached? That's Residency Permits Inquiry → RP Renewal Tracking, using the sponsor's or the permit holder's personal ID number.
Where has a new RP application reached? That's RP Application Tracking & Printing, using the visa number instead.
In short: Official Documents tells you "valid or not, right now." RP Renewal Tracking tells you "where the application currently stands." If you're mid-renewal, you'll likely need both at different points. Our Qatar ID renewal guide walks through the current fees, required documents, and full renewal timeline if you're just starting that process.
If your company handles the renewal, this QID renewal check is also the simplest way to confirm the request was actually submitted, instead of relying on a verbal update from HR.
How Do I Track My QID Card Delivery?
When a residence permit is renewed through the Metrash app, MOI says the new card is delivered through Qatar Post (Q-Post). To see where it is, open Inquiries, then QPost Services, then QPost Requests Tracking on the MOI portal, choose the QID Number option, enter the number and verification code, and search.
MOI lists the residence permit requests this tracker covers, including residency renewal, a first-time residence permit, and reprinting a lost or damaged ID card. Companies can search with their company ID details instead of a QID.
In the Metrash app, the same QID delivery status check sits under Enquiry Service, then QPost Tracking, where you pick the postal request from your list to see its details.
Your record is updated electronically before the card reaches you, so a delivery still in progress doesn't mean your permit isn't valid. Run the Official Documents inquiry if you need to see the new expiry date in the meantime. If the tracker shows nothing for your QID, the request may not have gone through Q-Post, so ask whoever submitted it, often the company PRO, how the card is being issued.
Checking From Outside Qatar
The MOI inquiry is a public web service reachable from any country, and nothing about the method changes abroad. This matters most for two groups: residents on leave confirming their permit is still valid before flying back, and family members waiting overseas who can check by passport number and nationality even before a card has been issued. If you're traveling to Qatar for the first time on certain visa categories, our Hayya Card guide covers that separate entry requirement.
Metrash works differently here: it assumes an existing QID and Qatar mobile subscription, so it isn't the right tool if you don't hold either yet. Use the website inquiry instead.
Is This Service Free?
Yes, fully. The Official Documents inquiry costs nothing, needs no account, and charges nothing to view your result. If any website asks you to pay for a Qatar ID check, or asks you to submit your QID into its own form before showing a result, that is not the official service, regardless of how professional it looks.
Protecting Your QID Number From Scams
Your QID identifies you across banking, telecom, healthcare, and government services, so treat it with the same caution as a bank card number.
Check the address bar. The official portal is portal.moi.gov.qa, ending in .gov.qa. Similar-looking domains show up in search results regularly.
Only enter your details on the MOI site itself. No legitimate third party, including QatarVia, needs your QID number to help you check it.
Never pay to check. The real service is free, always.
Be wary of unexpected messages about expiry or fines that push you to act immediately or hand over card details. Open the MOI portal yourself instead of following a link from a message.
Don't post photos of your ID card in chats or on social media; they travel further than intended.
Clear your session after checking on a shared or public computer.
For anything specific to your own file, contact MOI directly or visit a service center; contact details are on the ministry's official Contact Us page.
Final Summary
A QID check takes a few minutes on a free government service: open the MOI Official Documents inquiry, search by QID or passport number, include your date of birth, and read the dates on the result rather than the label alone. For a renewal in progress use RP Renewal Tracking, and for a card on its way use QPost Requests Tracking.
Two things prevent most of the frustration people run into. First, an empty result is almost always a typing or field-matching issue, not a residency problem, so check nationality and date-of-birth formatting before worrying. Second, if you're waiting on an application or renewal rather than checking a document you already hold, RP Renewal Tracking is the correct tool, not this one.
Check your own record, and every record under your sponsorship, a few times a year, and confirm anything that actually matters directly with MOI.

Editorial note. This guide was checked against MOI's live service pages on the date above. Navigation, form fields, and service names were confirmed by loading the official pages directly rather than taken from secondary sources. Where MOI doesn't publish specific detail, including a fixed list of status wording, this guide describes general meaning and points you to your own result and to MOI. We review this page at least every 90 days.

We do not access government records, process applications, or collect fees, and we never request your QID or passport number. Confirm anything affecting your residency, employment, travel, or finances directly with MOI.
Open portal.moi.gov.qa and go to Inquiries, then Other Inquiries, then Official Documents. Choose QID Number or Passport Number, enter your details and date of birth, complete the verification code, and select Search. The result shows the expiry date MOI holds for your document. The check is free and works without an account.
Can I check my Qatar ID using only a passport number?
Yes. Select Passport Number, enter it exactly as printed, choose your nationality, and add your date of birth. This is the usual method before a card has been issued. If you renewed your passport recently, try the older number first, since the new one may not be linked to your residency file yet.
How do I check my QID renewal status?
Use RP Renewal Tracking on the MOI portal, under Inquiries and then Residency Permits Inquiry. Enter the QID number of the sponsor or of the permit holder, complete the verification code, and search. This follows a renewal that has already been submitted. Official Documents only shows your current record. See our Qatar ID renewal guide for fees and documents.
How do I check my Qatar ID validity and expiry date?
The expiry date is printed on the card and shown in the MOI Official Documents result, which MOI describes as the inquiry for expiry dates of official documents. If the two disagree, the portal reflects the current record, because renewals are recorded electronically before a new card is printed.
How do I check my QID card delivery status?
On the MOI portal, open Inquiries, then QPost Services, then QPost Requests Tracking, and search by QID number. In the Metrash app, go to Enquiry Service, then QPost Tracking, and select your postal request. MOI says cards renewed through Metrash are delivered by Qatar Post, and this tracker covers residence permit requests sent that way.
How do I know if my Qatar ID is canceled or not?
Run the Official Documents inquiry with your QID or passport number. A canceled permit will not show as valid with a future expiry date. MOI doesn't publish its exact status wording, so if the result is unclear or unexpected, ask your sponsor and confirm with MOI directly before traveling or changing jobs.
Do I need to log in to check QID status?
No. The Official Documents inquiry is a public service with no account required. You only need your 11-digit QID number or your passport number, your nationality, your date of birth, and the verification code shown on the page. Metrash is the only option that needs a sign-in.
Can I check my Qatar ID from outside Qatar?
Yes, from any country, using the identical method. The MOI inquiry is a public web service, so residents on leave can confirm their permit before flying back, and family members overseas can check by passport number and nationality before a card has been issued.
Why isn't my QID record appearing?
Usually a mismatch in the number, nationality selection, or date of birth, which must be entered in yyyy/mm/dd order. New arrivals may not have a record yet either. Recheck each field and try the other search method before assuming a problem, since QID and passport searches read the same record.
Is it safe to enter my QID number online, and is QatarVia official?
Only enter it on the official MOI portal at portal.moi.gov.qa, never on third-party sites, and never pay to check it. QatarVia is an independent information site with no affiliation with the Ministry of Interior. We never ask for your QID, and all official checks happen on the MOI portal.
