Driver Jobs in Qatar 2026: Salary, License Needed & How to Apply
What driver jobs in Qatar actually pay according to dated ads, which Qatar license and extra permits each role needs, how overseas licenses are treated, and how to apply without falling for fees or fake offers.
Most 2026 driver ads we checked that stated pay offered about QAR 1,500 to QAR 2,200 a month in basic or headline pay, often with housing or food on top. You need a Qatar license in the right vehicle category, plus extra authorization for taxi, limousine and public transport work. A foreign license or visitor driving permission is not permission to work. Apply through verified employer pages and job boards and never pay a recruitment fee.
Driver jobs in Qatar cover very different work: company cars and vans, family driving, heavy trucks, buses, motorcycle delivery, airport passenger transport and limousine work. Drivers are among the most often advertised roles in Qatar, both for people already in the country and for people recruited from abroad. Pay, license rules and the legal setup still differ a lot from one job to the next, so the first step is to work out which kind of driving job you are actually applying for.
Quick answer: Most driver ads we checked in 2026 that stated pay offered about QAR 1,500 to QAR 2,200 a month in basic or headline pay. Shared housing, a food allowance or both often came on top. A few roles paid more, such as one forklift post at a logistics company advertised at QAR 3,500 to QAR 4,000. You need a Qatar driving license in the category of vehicle you will drive, and taxi, limousine and public-transport work has extra conditions. A foreign license or visitor driving permission is not permission to work. Apply through employer careers pages and established job boards, and never pay a recruitment fee.

How we researched this guide (7 October 2026): We read Qatar's Traffic Law and its Executive Regulation on Al Meezan, the Ministry of Interior traffic pages, Ministry of Transport notices, the Labour Law, the Domestic Workers Law and the minimum wage decision. We also checked driver ads on Indeed Qatar, Qatar Living, Qureos, LinkedIn and Qatar Airways Careers. Indeed's individual job pages, Bayt, GulfTalent, Mzad, Hukoomi, the Ministry of Labour website and Mowasalat's website blocked our automated access, so we relied on the pages we could open. Gaps are flagged where they matter.
Driver jobs in Qatar: roles at a glance

Driver salary in Qatar: what the evidence shows
No official source publishes a national salary for drivers in Qatar. So rather than invent an average, we collected individual ads that stated pay. The examples below come from different employers, dates and vehicle types. Treat them as examples of what was offered, not as market rates. Several had already closed when we checked them, and some contained contradictory figures, which we note.
Limits of this sample: it covers 11 usable ads and is not random. Pay for the ads seen only on Indeed comes from summary cards, because the full ads were blocked. We found no current Qatar ad for a taxi, limousine or ride-hailing driver that stated pay. Several roles were offered through manpower or recruitment firms rather than the end employer. We left out one heavy driver ad that listed "QAR 2,500 to 3,000 per hour", an obvious error in the pay period.
What salary databases say
Indeed's salary pages estimate pay from job ads on its own site, not from payslips or government data. On 7 October 2026 they showed these monthly figures for Qatar:
These estimates broadly match the ads above. Some other salary sites show driver pay several times higher, without saying where the figures came from or how many people they cover. We did not use them. Some Indeed pages also list "highest paying companies" with dollar signs that do not fit Qatar's monthly pay, so we did not use those either. For pay across all jobs, see our guide to salary expectations in Qatar.
Basic salary, package and the minimum wage
Driver ads often mix three different numbers: the basic salary, allowances, and a "package" that adds them together. The difference matters. Under the Labour Law, overtime premiums are calculated on the basic wage, and end-of-service gratuity is normally based on it too. A "QAR 2,000 full package" can mean a lower basic salary than a "QAR 1,800 basic plus housing" offer.
Qatar's minimum wage, set by Ministerial Decision No. 25 of 2020 under Law No. 17 of 2020, is a basic wage of QAR 1,000 a month. If the employer does not provide housing and food, it must also pay at least QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food. The law covers domestic workers, including household drivers, as well as other workers. We found no official revision of these amounts as of October 2026.
Overtime, hours and commission
For drivers covered by the Labour Law, normal hours are up to 48 a week and 8 a day, or 36 a week and 6 a day in Ramadan. Total working time must not exceed 10 hours a day. Overtime is paid at the basic wage plus at least 25%. Work between 9 pm and 6 am is paid at the basic wage plus at least 50%, except for shift workers. Workers get a weekly rest of at least 24 consecutive hours (Articles 73 to 75). An ad that says "no overtime" does not cancel these rules if you actually work extra hours. Household drivers are covered by different rules, explained below.
Commission and per-order incentives are not guaranteed salary. Ask what is fixed every month, how incentives are calculated and when they are paid.
Delivery earnings versus money left over
Delivery riders employed directly, such as those in the Snoonu ads above, may get a company bike, fuel, phone and housing. Other platform riders work through fleet partners. Delivery Hero's own Doha job ads describe managing "3PL partnerships" and "fleet partners" for its rider operations. In that setup, pay can depend on orders, and costs that a direct employer would cover may fall on the rider.
Illustration only, not market rates: a rider who earns QAR 3,000 in gross order income in a month but pays QAR 600 for bike rental, QAR 400 for fuel, QAR 100 for mobile data and QAR 150 for maintenance keeps QAR 1,750 before any fines or deductions. A rider on a fixed QAR 1,600 salary with bike, fuel and phone provided could end up with a similar amount, with less risk. Always compare what is left after costs, not headline earnings.
Which license do you need for driver jobs in Qatar?
Article 30 of the Traffic Law (Law No. 19 of 2007) lists separate license types. Employers often use their own labels, such as "heavy bus license" or "LTV". Always ask which official category the job needs.
License type (Traffic Law Art. 30)
Minimum age (Art. 31)
Relevant jobs
Fee for non-Qataris (MOI)
Motorcycle
18
Delivery riders
QAR 150, valid 5 years
Light vehicle
18
Company, household, light van drivers
QAR 250, valid 5 years
Heavy vehicle
21
Truck, trailer, tanker; buses in many ads
QAR 300, valid 5 years
Heavy machinery or equipment
21
Equipment operators on the road
QAR 300, valid 5 years
Public vehicles
21
Taxi, limousine, passenger and public transport
Annual permit QAR 250; valid 1 year
Fees come from the Ministry of Interior traffic fee schedule. Each test attempt costs QAR 50. Licenses for non-Qataris are valid for five years, and public-vehicle licenses for one year (Article 35).

Medical fitness, tests and training
Applicants must be medically and visually fit, and must pass a theory test and a practical test in the type of vehicle the license covers. Non-Qataris need legal residence, and the MOI says the employer gives a letter approving the application and stating the license type required. First-time drivers are then referred to approved driving schools. The step-by-step process and documents are covered in our guide to Qatar driving license requirements.
We found no official provision for an automatic-only license. The practical test described in the Executive Regulation includes using a manual gear stick. If a school or employer offers an automatic-only route, get the details in writing and check them with the Traffic Department.
Taxi, limousine, ride-hailing and bus work
A private light-vehicle license does not automatically allow paid passenger work. Under Article 32 of the Traffic Law, a public-vehicle license normally requires Qatari nationality, two years of licensed driving, a clean record for certain offenses and knowledge of the country's main locations. Non-Qataris can get one only if they are "employed as drivers on a full-time basis". The vehicles themselves must be licensed as taxis or limousines, and non-Qataris cannot register them.

Ride-hailing follows the same pattern. The Ministry of Transport publishes a list of licensed passenger-transport apps, last updated 28 September 2026. Uber's Qatar driver requirements list a Qatar ID with "Sponsorship under Limousine Company", a Qatari light vehicle license and a vehicle registered under that company. In a May 2025 statement reported by QNA, the Ministry of Transport said it acts against people carrying passengers in private vehicles without a license. Using your own car for paid trips is not a legal shortcut.
For buses, ads usually ask for a Qatar heavy license, while the Traffic Law places passenger transport vehicles under the public-vehicle license. Ask the employer which license and permit the Traffic Department will issue for that bus.
Delivery riders and equipment operators
Delivery riders need a motorcycle license and must follow specific traffic rules. The MOI announced in May 2024, as reported by QNA, that delivery riders must use the right lane on all roads. The Executive Regulation also limits the size of delivery boxes.
For equipment, an equipment license covers driving machinery on the road. It does not prove you can safely operate a particular forklift or crane. Employers and sites often require separate training certificates, and airports require an Airside Vehicle Operating Permit (AVOP) to drive airside.
The four permissions every driver needs
A driving license answers only the first of these questions:
Can you drive this vehicle? A Qatar license in the right category.
Can you work in Qatar? A residence permit linked to employment, or a work permit if you live in Qatar on family sponsorship.
Can you work for this employer? Normally only for your sponsoring employer, under an authenticated contract.
Is this activity licensed? Taxi, limousine, ride-hailing, public transport and delivery companies need their own Ministry of Transport licenses, and drivers may need a public-vehicle license or permit.
Applying with an overseas driving license
Years of driving trucks or buses at home is real experience and belongs on your CV. A foreign license does not let you drive for work in Qatar, though. Article 31 allows the licensing authority to exempt holders of a valid foreign license from the test, but no official page we could reach publishes a list of countries whose licenses are exchanged without a test. Lists on other websites are not official.

The MOI licensing page says people arriving to work with a home-country license are sent to driving schools to take the test. If they fail, they get another chance, and after that they must take a full training course. Applicants with Indian, Pakistani or other licenses should plan for this route rather than expect automatic acceptance. GCC citizens may drive on their GCC licenses and replace them with Qatari licenses when they expire.
Visitors can drive on an international driving permit, or after registering their foreign license, as long as they stay within their visit status. That permission covers driving only. It never allows paid driving work.
Applying without a Qatar license
Some employers recruit people without a Qatar license and arrange the training. One Qatar Airways passenger transportation driver ad, open until 31 October 2026 when we checked, asked for a home-country heavy license and the ability to obtain a Qatari heavy license and an AVOP. A Snoonu rider ad on Qatar Living accepted licensed and unlicensed applicants and paid for driving school, but said riders repay 50% of the school fee after starting. Support like this is offered only in some ads. Do not assume it.
Before accepting a training-based offer, get written answers to these questions:
Who pays for the driving course, eye test and test attempts?
Does the job depend on passing, and by when?
Is there a repayment clause, and how much is deducted each month?
Where will you live during training?
Will you get a salary during training?
What happens if you fail one or more tests?
Where to find driver jobs in Qatar

Employer careers pages.Qatar Airways Careers listed nine driver-related results on 7 October 2026. See our Qatar Airways careers guide for how its applications work. Mowasalat (Karwa) is a major transport employer, but its website blocked our access, so we could not confirm a current driver recruitment page. Use only links from its official website.
Qatar Living Jobs. Many local driver, rider and household ads. Many are aimed at people already in Qatar.
Indeed Qatar. Wide coverage of company, heavy and forklift roles, including agency listings.
Bayt and LinkedIn. Hotel, airline, logistics and contractor roles. Many LinkedIn driver ads we saw stated no salary.
Mzad Qatar. Separate employer vacancies from jobseeker ads. Many listings are posts by drivers offering their services, not jobs.
Treat delivery and ride-hailing platforms separately. Find out whether you would be employed by the platform, by a fleet partner or by a licensed limousine company, because that company is your sponsor and employer.
Eligibility: who can take a driver job?
Residents already employed
Under Article 42 of the Labour Law, a worker must not work for third parties, paid or unpaid. Moving to a new full-time driver job is a change of employer, with notice and Ministry of Labour and MOI steps. See changing employers in Qatar. Doing extra driving or delivery shifts on the side is a different matter. A 2026 amendment to the Labour Law provides for part-time and freelance work, but its detailed rules are set by later ministerial decisions. Until an official route clearly applies to you, do not take side work outside your sponsored job.
Applicants abroad need a job offer, a work visa and the entry medical and biometric steps, explained in our guide to the Qatar work visa process. Article 33 of the Labour Law forbids recruiters from charging workers recruitment fees.
Visitors
A visit visa does not allow work, including trial shifts, delivery or paid trips.
A maximum of 10 working hours a day, unless agreed otherwise.
A paid weekly rest of at least 24 consecutive hours.
Three weeks of paid annual leave.
A return ticket home every two years.
Wages paid by the third day of the following month.
Rules for changing employer also differ, so do not apply company-employee guidance to a household job.
"NOC", "free visa" and "own visa" ads
Many local driver ads ask for "NOC", "own visa" or a "transferable visa". These are informal labels used in ads, not statements of the law. Most private-sector workers no longer need an NOC to change jobs. "Free visa" usually describes a sponsor who does not actually employ the worker. That setup leaves the worker unprotected and is not legal permission to work for anyone you choose, so treat any ad offering a "free visa" as a warning sign and avoid it.
Documents and your driver CV
Requirements vary by employer and role, but most driver applications need:
A one or two page CV.
License categories, issuing country and expiry dates.
Years of driving by vehicle type, for example "4 years, 40-foot trailer".
Vehicles, routes and cargo or passenger types.
Two references from previous transport employers.
Your current location, visa status and genuine start date.
Certificates the employer asks for, such as forklift, defensive driving or first aid.
State your license category and validity on the CV, but do not publish your QID number, passport number or a full photo of your license on public job boards. Share copies only after you have verified the employer.
How to apply for driver jobs in Qatar
Match the role to your vehicle experience. Apply for the vehicle classes you have actually driven.
Confirm the license and your work status. Check the license category and whether you can lawfully take the job.
Verify the vacancy and employer. Check the company name, official website and contact details. Make sure the ad is current.
Tailor your CV. Put the matching vehicle types and license categories at the top.
Apply through the verified route. Use the careers page or the platform's own application process.
Prepare for the interview and driving assessment. Driving tests should take place under the employer's supervision and insurance, not on public roads in a vehicle you are not yet authorized to drive.
Compare written terms. Check the offer against the checklist below.
Complete approvals before starting. Do not start driving until your visa or work permit, Qatar license and contract are in place. Then check your employment contract in Qatar through the official route that applies to you.
Interview and assessment preparation
Route knowledge: main Doha roads, industrial areas, and how you plan routes and handle closures.
Pre-trip inspection: tires, lights, brakes, fluids and load security, and how you report defects.
Passenger service: punctuality, seatbelts, child safety for school runs, and handling difficult passengers.
Delivery records: proof of delivery, cash handling, app use and damaged goods.
Safe loading: weight distribution and securing loads for truck and van roles.
Driving history: answer honestly about accidents, fines and suspensions. Employers can check, and hiding a problem can cost you the job later. You can check Qatar traffic fines before the interview, but a fine check is not a full background check.
Offer checklist and scams
Before you sign, confirm these points in writing:
Basic salary and each allowance listed separately.
Duties, daily hours, shifts and rest day.
How overtime and commission are calculated, and when they are paid.
Who owns and insures the vehicle.
Who pays fuel and maintenance.
Policies on traffic fines and vehicle damage.
Training costs and any repayment.
Salary payment date and method.
The employer's legal name and official contact details.
A deduction policy in an ad is not automatically lawful. For workers under the Labour Law, Article 71 caps deductions for damage caused by the worker at seven days' wages a month, after an investigation. Article 70 limits total deductions to 50% of pay. If wages go unpaid or deductions look wrong, the Qatar labor complaint process is open to company and household workers, though some steps differ for domestic workers.
Warning signs of a scam:
Fees for a "guaranteed" job or visa.
Promises of a Qatar license for a payment, with no test.
Messages copying a well-known employer's name, sent from personal email or WhatsApp.
Pressure to send passport, QID or bank details before an interview.
Offers that skip the work visa or contract.
If in doubt, contact the employer through its official website.
Next step
Pick the one or two driver roles that match the vehicles you have actually driven. Confirm which Qatar license they need, and shortlist ads from employers you can verify. For more guides on Qatar jobs and pay, see our jobs and salaries hub.
Most driver ads we checked in 2026 that stated pay offered about QAR 1,500 to QAR 2,200 a month in basic or headline pay, often with housing or food on top. Indeed's estimate from 407 ads is QAR 2,053 a month. Pay varies by vehicle, employer and benefits, and no official national figure exists.
Which license is required for a company driver?
A Qatar light vehicle license for cars, pickups and light vans. Larger goods vehicles need a heavy license.
Is a Qatar heavy license needed for truck work?
Yes. Heavy vehicles need a Qatar heavy vehicle license, and the minimum age is 21. A foreign heavy license helps your application but does not replace the Qatar license.
Can I apply with an Indian or Pakistani license?
You can apply for jobs and list that experience. To drive for work, you still need a Qatar license. The MOI says arriving workers with home licenses are sent to driving schools for testing. No official source we found lists automatic conversion for these licenses.
Can employers provide license training?
Some do, as recent Snoonu and Qatar Airways ads show. Get the costs, any repayment, pay during training and what happens if you fail in writing.
Is a light license enough for taxi or limousine work?
Not on its own. Taxi and limousine driving is paid passenger transport. The Traffic Law sets a public-vehicle license for it, and the MOI charges an annual permit fee. Drivers must also work through a licensed taxi or limousine company. Uber's Qatar page, for example, requires sponsorship by a limousine company.
Are accommodation and food included?
Often, but not always. Many ads provide shared housing; some pay a food allowance instead of meals. If the employer provides neither, the minimum wage rules require allowances of at least QAR 500 for housing and QAR 300 for food on top of the basic wage.
Can overseas applicants apply?
Yes, where the employer recruits from abroad. Many local ads want candidates already in Qatar. Overseas hires need a work visa and must not be charged recruitment fees.
Can I do delivery work alongside another job?
Not freely. The Labour Law bars working for third parties, and the 2026 part-time and freelance framework depends on later decisions. Only take extra work through an official route that applies to you.
What should a driver CV include?
License categories and expiry dates, years of experience by vehicle type, routes and cargo, references, your location and visa status, and any certificates requested. Leave out full ID numbers.
