Bangladesh Bank Rate vs Market Rate
Since May 2025, Bangladesh Bank has described the taka's exchange rate as market-based and flexible: banks agree dollar rates with each other and with customers, and the central bank can still intervene in the market. There is no single official rate for converting riyals into taka.
Bangladesh Bank publishes several US Dollar datasets, and they measure different things:
- FX Reference Rate: a weighted average of spot US Dollar deals of USD 100,000 or more, interbank and with clients, published twice each business day (deals up to 11:00 AM and up to 5:00 PM). This is the figure in the Bangladesh Bank box above.
- Exchange Rate of Taka: the previous business day's highest and lowest interbank USD/BDT rates and a weighted average, plus cross rates for a short list of other currencies. The Qatari Riyal is not on that list.
- Interbank FX market data: daily deal counts, volumes and rates for US Dollar trading between banks.
Because none of these includes the riyal, QatarVia divides Bangladesh Bank's USD/BDT reference rate by Qatar's fixed parity of 3.64 and labels the result a derived reference rate. It is not a Bangladesh Bank QAR quote. It can differ from the converter's market rate because of timing, method and market segment, and neither is the rate a Qatar exchange house or a Bangladeshi bank will give you.
Mid-Market Rate vs Qatar Exchange-House Rate
Nobody sells taka at exactly the mid-market rate. When you send money from Qatar, the exchange house or bank quotes its own customer rate, and the amount that reaches Bangladesh can also depend on:
- Exchange-rate margin: the gap between the reference rate and the rate you are offered, usually built into the rate rather than shown as a fee.
- Transfer fee: a flat or tiered charge in QAR.
- Amount and funding method: branch, app, card or bank-account funding can be priced differently, as can larger amounts.
- Payout method: bank deposit, cash pickup and mobile-wallet credit may each carry their own rate or fee.
- Correspondent arrangements and bank deductions: an intermediary or the receiving bank may take its own charge.
- Promotions: a better rate or waived fee may apply only to a first transfer, one channel or a minimum amount.
A zero transfer fee does not automatically mean the best deal. A weaker rate with no fee can deliver fewer taka than a stronger rate with a small fee. The most useful comparison is how many Bangladeshi Taka the recipient gets for the same total QAR cost.
Why Does the QAR to BDT Rate Change?
Qatar Central Bank fixes the Qatari Riyal at QAR 3.64 per US Dollar, so the riyal does not move against the dollar. The taka does. QAR to BDT therefore moves almost entirely as the taka moves against the US Dollar. Influences include:
- Bangladesh Bank policy, interest rates and how much it intervenes in the market
- Inflation in Bangladesh
- Demand for dollars to pay for imports, including fuel and energy
- Export earnings, especially from garments
- Workers' remittances, from Qatar and elsewhere
- Foreign-exchange reserves, external financing and the balance of payments
- Dollar liquidity between banks and the strength of the US Dollar globally
This explains movements; it is not a forecast. QatarVia does not predict whether the taka will strengthen or weaken, or suggest when to send money.
Sending Money From Qatar to Bangladesh
The converter shows what your riyals are worth at the reference rate. To get them to Bangladesh you choose a provider, a payout method and enter the recipient's details. Licensed exchange houses in Qatar and some Qatar banks send to Bangladesh, usually through partner banks there. QatarVia's guide to compare money-transfer providers in Qatar explains how they differ, what documents they ask for and how to read a quote.

Bank Transfer to Bangladesh
For a deposit into a Bangladeshi bank account, providers commonly ask for details such as:
- The recipient's full name, exactly as the bank account holds it
- The bank name and account number
- The branch name, and the branch's routing number where the provider asks for it
- The recipient's mobile number, where required
- The purpose of the transfer and your relationship to the recipient, where required
Exact fields vary by provider. Ask the recipient to copy the account number and branch from their cheque book, bank app or statement rather than typing them from memory. A name that does not match the account, or a wrong account or branch, can delay or return the transfer.
bKash and Nagad Availability
bKash and Nagad are Bangladesh's largest mobile financial services. Bangladesh Bank allows inward remittances to be credited to these wallets through banks that have arrangements with overseas providers, but that does not mean every Qatar exchange house offers wallet payout, or that any transfer can go straight to a wallet.
Some remittance providers may offer bKash payout to Bangladesh. Confirm that bKash is explicitly listed as the payout method before completing the transfer. The same applies to Nagad: check your provider's current Bangladesh mobile-wallet options in its app or at the counter. The recipient's name and registered mobile number usually need to match the wallet account, and wallets have their own receiving limits.
Cash Pickup in Bangladesh
Cash pickup depends on the provider and its partner network in Bangladesh, often bank branches. The recipient usually needs valid identification, a name that matches the transfer exactly, and the transfer reference number, plus anything else the provider asks for. Enter the name as it appears on the recipient's national ID card or passport, and check the provider's requirements before sending.
How to Compare Qatar to Bangladesh Money Transfers
- Use the same QAR amount with each provider.
- Compare providers within a short time of each other.
- Choose the same payout method: bank deposit, cash pickup or wallet.
- Compare each provider's customer QAR to BDT rate.
- Check the transfer fee.
- Check for possible recipient-side charges.
- Compare the final BDT the recipient will receive.
- Verify the beneficiary details.
- Review the final quote before paying.
A quick check: multiply your QAR amount by the reference rate above and compare it with the taka amount on a quote. The gap is roughly what margin and fees cost you together. QatarVia does not rank providers, because it does not have comparable live quotes.
