State Bank of Pakistan Exchange Rate Context
Pakistan has followed a market-based flexible exchange-rate system since 1999. In the State Bank of Pakistan's description, the rupee's rate is set by demand and supply in the interbank foreign exchange market, and each authorised dealer is free to fix its own buying and selling rates. There is no single official customer rate for QAR to PKR.
SBP publishes several exchange-rate datasets, and they answer different questions:
- Daily Average Banks' Floating Exchange Rates: an average of banks' rates per business day, released in monthly batches. It includes the Qatari Riyal, and it is the figure in the SBP card above.
- Mark-to-Market revaluation rates: issued daily for authorised dealers to revalue their books. They include QAR, but they are an accounting benchmark, not a customer rate.
- Weighted Average Customer Exchange Rates and Open Market closing rates: these cover a short list of major currencies. When we checked on 4 October 2026, neither included QAR, so QatarVia does not show an “SBP QAR customer rate” or an open-market QAR rate.
QatarVia never derives a QAR figure from SBP's US Dollar rates and labels it as SBP data. The SBP card shows only the QAR value SBP itself publishes, with SBP's own date.
Mid-Market Rate vs Qatar Exchange-House Rate
Three different numbers appear on this page, and they are not meant to match. The market reference rate in the converter is a daily mid-market benchmark. The SBP reference data is an average of Pakistani banks' rates on an earlier date. A Qatar exchange-house rate is the customer rate a provider offers you today. QatarVia does not average them.
What finally arrives in Pakistan can also depend on:
- Exchange-rate margin: the gap between the reference rate and your rate, usually built into the rate rather than shown as a fee.
- Transfer fee: a flat or tiered charge in QAR.
- Amount and funding method: larger sends, app versus branch, and cash versus card funding can be priced differently.
- Payout method: bank deposit, cash pickup and wallet payout may each have their own rate or charge.
- Correspondent or recipient deductions taken by a partner bank.
- Promotions limited to a first transfer, one channel or a minimum amount.
Not every provider applies every one of these.
Why Does the QAR to PKR Rate Change?
Qatar Central Bank fixes the Qatari Riyal to the US Dollar at QAR 3.64 per USD, so the riyal does not float against the dollar. The Pakistani Rupee does. In practice, QAR to PKR is close to the USD to PKR rate divided by 3.64, and it moves mainly when the rupee moves against the dollar. Influences include:
- State Bank of Pakistan monetary policy, interest rates and inflation
- Demand for and supply of foreign exchange in Pakistan's interbank market
- Imports, especially energy, against exports and worker remittances
- Foreign investment, external financing and SBP's foreign exchange reserves
- Pakistan's balance of payments and market expectations
- The strength of the US Dollar in global markets
This explains movements; it is not a forecast. QatarVia does not predict whether the rupee will rise or fall, or say which day is best to send.
Sending Money From Qatar to Pakistan
The converter tells you what your riyals are worth at the reference rate. To actually send them you need a provider, a payout method and correct recipient details. QatarVia's guide on how to send money from Qatar to Pakistan compares exchange houses supervised by Qatar Central Bank and has a dedicated Pakistan section.
When QatarVia checked on 1 October 2026, Gulf Exchange named three Pakistani correspondents (Allied Bank, Bank Al Habib and Bank of Khyber), Habib Qatar International Exchange listed Pakistan on its rate board, and Al Zaman Exchange's Pakistan route was confirmed through its Ooredoo Money partnership. Some Qatar banks remit too: on 4 October 2026, QIB's Cash Pickup page offered instant transfers to Pakistan for collection at any Habib Bank Limited branch. Partnerships change, so confirm the route with your provider before paying.
If you are working out how much of a monthly Qatar salary converts into Pakistani Rupees, QatarVia's guide to the average salary in Qatar is a useful starting point.
Pakistan Bank Transfer and IBAN
For a deposit into a Pakistani bank account, providers commonly ask for the recipient's full name, bank name and IBAN, and some also ask for a contact number, the purpose of the transfer or your relationship to the recipient. The exact fields vary by provider.
The IBAN is usually the key detail. The State Bank of Pakistan introduced IBAN under PSD Circular No. 02 of 2012 to standardise account codes for domestic and cross-border payments. A Pakistani IBAN has 24 characters: PK, two check digits, a four-letter bank code and a 16-digit account code. An IBAN is not the same as a SWIFT/BIC code: the IBAN identifies the account, while the SWIFT/BIC identifies the bank.
Check the recipient's IBAN directly in their bank app, statement or official bank record before sending, and enter their name exactly as the bank holds it. This converter never asks for an IBAN or any account details.
Raast, Easypaisa and JazzCash
Raast is Pakistan's national instant payment system, run by the State Bank of Pakistan. Inside Pakistan, users can send and receive with an IBAN or a Raast ID (a mobile number linked to an account). In January 2026 SBP also allowed Pakistani exchange companies to use Raast to credit home-remittance beneficiaries' accounts and wallets.
That is a payout rail inside Pakistan, not a service you select in Qatar. A Qatar provider's Pakistani partner may credit the recipient through Raast, but treat “Raast transfer from Qatar” as available only if your Qatar provider publishes that exact option. A Raast ID is not an international account identifier.
Easypaisa and JazzCash are popular Pakistani mobile wallets. QatarVia could not find a Qatar provider's official page confirming payout to either wallet, so wallet support should not be assumed. If wallet payout matters, check it in the exchange-house app or at the counter before you pay; the recipient's registered mobile number and name may need to match the wallet account.
Cash Pickup in Pakistan
Cash pickup depends on the provider and its receiving network in Pakistan. The recipient typically needs valid identification that matches the beneficiary name you entered, plus the transfer or reference number. Requirements vary, so ask your provider what the recipient must bring, and do not assume a misspelt name will be accepted.
How to Compare the Real Transfer Cost
The useful question is: how many Pakistani Rupees will the recipient actually receive for the same total QAR budget?
- Use the same total QAR budget with each provider.
- Request quotes within a short period.
- Select the same payout method, such as bank deposit to the same bank.
- Compare each provider's QAR to PKR customer rate.
- Check the transfer fee.
- Ask for the final PKR amount the recipient will receive.
- Check for any known recipient-side or correspondent deductions.
- Confirm the beneficiary name and IBAN or wallet details.
- Review the final quote before paying.
A quick sense check: multiply your QAR amount by the reference rate above and compare it with the rupee amount on a quote. The gap is roughly what margin and fees cost you together. QatarVia does not rank providers, because it has no comparable live quotes.
